INTRODUCTION
California is located on the Pacific coast of America. California is known for its varying climate and ethnically diverse population. It is the 13th fastest-growing state. More immigrants settle in California than in any other state. In 1990 they made up more than 30 percent of all immigrants in the US. California has many pseudonyms, such as, "The Land of Milk & Honey," "The El Dorado State," "The Golden State," and "The Grape State."
California was sighted by Spanish navigator Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo in 1542, but was not established until 1769. California became a U.S. territory in 1847 when Mexico surrendered it to American Military Officer, John C. Frémont.

MACDONALDS
In 1940 brothers Dick and Mac McDonald opened the first McDonalds restaurant in San Bernardino, California on Route 66. It became the most popular and highly profitable teen hangout. In 1953 the Fourth McDonalds restaurant opened in Downey, at the corners of Lakewood and Florence Avenue and is the oldest McDonalds restaurant still in operation today. McDonalds has become one of the worlds largest brands and is instantly recognizable by the ‘golden arches’ logo and its advertising icon ‘Ronald McDonald’.

Disneyland theme park which is located in Anaheim, California, is slightly smaller than the one in Florida. It opened on July 17, 1955. Hollywood is a district of Los Angeles, California. “Hollywood” is one of the largest brands that is associated with the film and television industry. In 1947 the first commercial television station KTLA began operating in Hollywood. In December of that year the first Hollywood movie production was made for TV. In the 1950’s music recording studios and offices began moving here. Today Hollywood still remains the symbolic centre of the U.S. motion - ‘picture industry’.

The Giant Sequoia also known as the California Redwood or Coast Redwood is a type of tree. They are evergreen and long living. They can live for thousands of years and are the tallest and largest living organisms on the planet. The General Sherman Tree in Sequoia National Park is the largest tree in the world and weighs more than six thousand tons. It is 272 ft (83 m) high and 37 ft (11 m) in diameter at its widest point. It is one of the oldest living things in the world, estimated to be more than three and a half thousand years old.
MARILYN MONROE
Golden Globe Award-winning actress, singer, model and pop icon Marilyn Monroe was born in Los Angeles, California on 6/1/1926. She was known for her comedic skills and screen presence. She went on to become one of the most popular movie stars of the 1950s and early 1960s.
