INTRODUCTION
Florida gets her name from the Spanish for “place of flowers” was the 27th State to be admitted to the USA. Ponce de Leon discovered Florida in 1513 whilst looking for the mythical “Fountain of Youth”. Florida has been held by Spain, England and France before Spain sold her to the United States in 1819.
THE LOGO COMPANY’S TOP 5 FACTS ABOUT FLORIDA
POPULATION
Over 1000 people move to Florida each day and as such it has one of the fastest growing populations in the United States. Not many Floridians move either – Nearly half of the population still live in the same house as they did in 1995. Another interesting fact about Florida is that 1 in 4 households do not speak English at home.
WEATHER
One of the reasons that Florida attracts so many people is its wonderful weather. In the summer months the temperature may reach 100°F and in the winter it rarely goes under 20°F. In fact Florida has recorded temperatures above 92°F in all 12 months.
However the capital [Tallahassee] has recorded a chilling -2°F, although not in this century!!
TOURISM
Tourism is the main industry in Florida. It has the biggest tourism market in the world with more that 84 million people visiting Florida in 2006, twice as much as 10 years ago. Most of these surprisingly were from the state of New York. Many of them come for Florida’s amusement parks.
AMUSEMENT PARKS
Florida has around 20 amusement parks. Disney have 4 parks plus 2 waterparks and Universal have 2. The SheiKra at Busch Gardens was the first roller coaster in the world to have a full 90° drop… That means straight down! Below are some of the logos you will recognise from the fore mentioned theme parks.
GOLF
Florida has 19 commercial airports, 12 of which are international. It also has more than 1250 golf courses including Bay Hill, Sawgrass, Champion at PGA National, LaPlaya and Westin Innisbrook. There are more golfers from Florida in the Hall of fame than any other state in the USA and any other country in the world. Many Golf courses are recognised by their “signature” hole, they also place large importance on having a distinctive logo. You can see some examples below.
