Indian tribes were living in Michigan when the first European, Etienne Brule of France, arrived in 1618. Since then it has been held by the British and was acquired by the U.S. after the Revolutionary War. Michigan borders on 4 of the 5 great lakes.

THOMAS EDISON

Thomas Edison was raised in Michigan and is the greatest ever inventor and held 1,093 U.S. Patents. He invented, amongst other things, the phonograph, the light bulb, carbon microphone (used in radio and public address broadcasting).

In Life Magazine he was rated first in a list of “100 most important people in the last 1000 years”, He was 35th in a list of “The most influential figures in History” and has been called the 15th Greatest American.
