INTRODUCTION

“Here's to the land where maidens are fair,
Where friends are true and cold hearts rare,
The near land, the dear land, whatever fate,
The blest land, the best land, the OldNorthState!”

North Carolina is the site of the first English settlement in the New World and the beginning of English as the primary language. It was also the first state to declare independence from England in 1775.

THE LOGO COMPANY’S TOP 5 FACTS ABOUT NORTH CAROLINA

FLIGHT

On December 17th 1903 the Wright brothers made the first successful attempt at a piloted flight in a heavier-than-air powered
aircraft at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. It was in a bi-plane that they designed themselves. The right wing was four inches longer that
the left to compensate for the engine which was mounted to the right of the pilot and was a little heavier. On that day they covered
852 feet in the air in 59 seconds.

Before Wilbur and Orville Wright invented the plane, they designed and built a printer for a printing business they owned as well as improved the modern day bicycle design for a cycle shop they owned.

COMMERCE

North Carolina is the nation's largest furniture, tobacco, brick, and textile producer. Mica and lithium production is also important to the state. Tourists spend over $1 billion annually as it has a large sporting attraction with year-round golfing, skiing, hunting and both fresh and saltwater fishing.

North Carolina is also a major banking location for the Bank of America (6th biggest company in USA), Wachovia (#41st) and BB&T (212th).

BILTMORE ESTATE

The historic Biltmore Estate is known for being the largest private residence in all of America. It receives more annual visitors than Colonial Williamsburg, George Washington's Mount Vernon, Thomas Jefferson's Monticello, and Elvis's Graceland.

It is situated on 8,000 acres of land that was designed by Frederick Law Olmstead. Olmstead also designed New York’s Central Park and the gardens of U.S Capitol. He called Biltmore Estate "the first great private work of our profession in the country."

CAPE HATTERAS LIGHTHOUSE

This lighthouse is a famous symbol of North Carolina with its spiral black and white striping. The beacon from the light can be seen 20 miles out to sea and has warned sailors of the shallow sandbars around Cape Hatteras for over 100 years.

In 1999 the Atlantic Ocean threatened the lighthouse so it was moved from its original location. It is the largest such structure to ever be moved.

PEPSI COLA

Pepsi cola was invented by Caleb Bradham on 28th August 1898, before that it was known as “Brads Drink”. It was the birth of one of the world’s most recognizable logos.

In 1923 Pepsi-Cola Company went bankrupt and sold on its assets. It then changed hands a further 3 times before going bankrupt again in 1931. Charles G. Guth then buys the company and sells 12oz. bottles for the same price as 6oz bottles of its competitors. It is a huge instant success in depression worn America.

PepsiCo Inc now has 15 brands each generating $1 billion in profit and is the 5th largest food and drink company in the world.
