MOUNT ST HELENS

Mount St. Helens is an active volcano in Skamania County, Washington. It is located in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. Mount St. Helens is most famous for its catastrophic eruption on May 18, 1980. It was the deadliest and most economically destructive volcanic event in the history of the United States. Fifty-seven people were killed; 250 homes, 47 bridges, 15 miles of railways and 185 miles of highway were destroyed. The eruption caused a massive debris avalanche, reducing the elevation of the mountain's summit from 9,677 ft (2,950 m) to 8,365 ft (2,550 m), and replacing it with a mile-wide (1.5 km-wide) horseshoe-shaped crater.

SPACE NEEDLE

Seattle, Washington is home to the first revolving restaurant in 1961 in the Space Needle. The 'Top of the Needle' restaurant is at the 500 foot mark of the 600 foot high Space Needle. The restaurant completes one revolution every hour. Located in Seattle Center it was built for the 1962 World Fair. The Space Needle is 605 feet (184 m) high and 138 feet (42 m) wide at its widest point and weighs 9,550 tons.
