So Christmas is almost on us once again. Where has the year gone? It seems that the older you get the faster Christmas comes around. Google have been putting together hundreds of doodles (those logos you see on the home page from time to time depicting events in history, famous people, holidays etc) for many years. They have been going since 1998 and in that time, up to today’s date, they have come up with 1555. They have an in-house team of people they call Doodlers who are responsible for the designs and if you like your numbers, feel free to check out these facts here. Googles Doodles
For those who like their numbers as they come, I have outlined below the facts year by year.
1998 – 3 doodles in total. No Christmas doodle. This was Googles first year.
1999 – 5 doodles in total. 1 Christmas doodle launched on the 25th December.
2000 – 33 doodles in total. 1 Christmas doodle launched on the 22nd December.
2001 – 22 doodles in total. A series of 4 Christmas doodles. The first launched on the 20th December and the last on the 24th.
2002 – 51 doodles in total. A series of 5 Christmas doodles. First launched on 23rd December and the last on the 27th.
2003 – 39 doodles in total. Another 5 series of Christmas doodles. 22nd to the 26th December they were launched.
2004 – 55 doodles in total. Another 5 series. 20th to 24th December.
2005 – 44 doodles in total. Yet another 5 series of Christmas doodles. 20th to 24th December.
2006 – 88 doodles in total. Again a 5 series of Christmas doodles. 21st to 25th December.
2007 – 68 doodles in total. And another 5 series. 21st to 25th December.
2008 – 153 doodles in total. A massive lift on the year before and again a series of 5 Christmas logos. 21st to 25th December.
2009 – 198 doodles in total. Another big lift in numbers. 5 again too. 21st to 25th again as well.
2010 – 258 doodles in total. It´s prolific now. More than 1 every other day. Now we break the trend. Just 1 Christmas doodle launched on the 23rd of December.
2011 – 261 doodles in total. Again just 1 at Christmas. 23rd December.
2012 – 277 (up to 12-11-12) doodles in total. What are your guesses for number of Christmas doodles this year? The current trend would suggest just 1 but the overall history suggests it could be as many as 5. My money is on 1.
