Blob Shaped Logos Are Back To Stay

Why Even Design A Blob Shaped Logo?

Well, let’s think back to the time when blob shaped logos were so popular. I believe there’s just something about it that makes it stand out in this world of squares and circles. Furthermore, it reminds me of a time when design was bold and daring. A time when companies weren’t afraid to take risks with their branding.

Actually, seeing a blob logo today fills me with a sense of nostalgia for those days when everything seemed possible.  Dare I say that the year 2024 is going to be the year blob shaped logos come back? Well, I certainly believe so. I love the way they can convey movement and fluidity, especially for brands in technology and entertainment. And the fact that they’re so versatile means that they can be adapted to any size without losing their unique charm. This is similar to the oval shape that we talk about next time.

There’s just something so appealing and memorable about a blob logo. It’s a design choice that I think will always endure, reminding us of a time when creativity and individuality were celebrated. The Logo Company has created a few blob shaped logos in the past. Just look at the dirt therapy logo. A brown logo in the shape of a blob. Superbly made and memorable logo in my eyes.

Which Industry Typically Uses A Blob Shaped Logo

Well, a lot of industries have used blob shaped logos before but today its more tech companies that seem to have a love for the non organised chaotic blob. Did you know that many tech companies use circular logos or blob-shaped logos? I believe that these logos often represent modernity and a friendly approach to technology. You’ve probably seen logos like this on popular social media platforms like Instagram and Snapchat, or on file-sharing services like Dropbox and Google Drive!

Most of all, blob shaped logos are great because they symbolize the companies’ ability to connect with diverse users and systems. Thats why they are back to stay. Companies try to reconnect with their customers in any way they can. Plus, they are easily recognizable and work well across different mediums. Therefore, it’s no wonder so many tech businesses with global audiences choose this design! So, next time you see a blob-shaped logo, you’ll know why it’s so popular in the tech industry.

The Origin Of The Blob Logo Shape

Alexander Calder used a lot of blob shaped design. semi blob circles on a pole

Interestingly, it is not a very old shape but has its origin in the mid-twentieth century.

Understandably, the blob logo shape is a popular design element that is used in many companies’ logos. Like for example, the not so known French Veolia website.

Another great example is the inner beauty brand and website where the blob shaped logo does so well and brings a lot of modern feel to the brand.

One of the first designers to popularize the blob shape was the American artist Alexander Calder, who created many abstract sculptures featuring the form in the 1950s. Furthermore, the blob shape was also a prominent feature in the work of the Memphis Group. An Italian design group that was active in the 1980s. Today, theres is a famous Calder Prize for innovative artists.

In modern times, the blob shape has become a ubiquitous design element in modern branding, representing a sense of fluidity, adaptability, and creativity. Chaotic some would say.

Bright Colors For Blob Shapes Logos

Well, if you are going to dare to use blobs then you will have to add bright colors, in my opinion at least. Don’t be afraid to show a bit of personality. After all, a bright and bold color palette can add an extra dose of playfulness to your blob shape design.

Whether you want to go all out with primary colors or choose a softer pastel palette, the possibilities are endless. Don’t be afraid to experiment and mix things up! Of course, a vibrant color scheme is sure to get your brand noticed. More importantly, leaving a lasting impression on your potential customers. Why not try a bright yellow design and a bit of red color?

Fonts To Use And To Avoid

When choosing fonts for blob-shaped logos, it’s important to consider legibility and of course, personality. More so the compatibility with the overall design. For example, Sans-serif fonts like Arial, Helvetica, and Futura are good choices as they are simple, modern, and easy to read at various sizes.

However, avoid using overly decorative or script fonts as they may clash with the organic shape of the blob. As a result, making the logo hard to read. Similarly, fonts with narrow lettering may not work as well in blob-shaped logos. Mostly because, they may look condensed or jumbled within the rounded outline.

Most of all, it’s also important to consider the tone and personality of the brand. For a more playful or whimsical brand, a rounded or bubbly font might work well. On the other hand, a more professional or serious brand may benefit from a straighter, more structured font. Ultimately, the font choice should complement the overall aesthetic of the blob-shaped logo.

When it comes to colors, a blob shaped logo can obviously have any color but a frosted colored blob can be particularly edgy.

Wrapping Up: Are They Here To Stay?

In conclusion, I belive the blob shaped logo is here (or even back) to stay because they are colorful and just charming. Adding that little extra to your design when you thought you tried everything. Blobs are memorable (even if you might think a little chaotic) After all, chaos can be charming and that’s my tech companies use the shape a lot. Believing they can get away from the stern and strict tech business look that have had for years. Attracting new kind of customers. Lots of companies have blob shaped websites. Some people dislike the look a lot but like Alexander Calder abstract shapes, I find the utterly charming. What do you think?
